The sequel to Sicario, Sicario 2: Soldado is directed by Stefano Sollima (Director of series Gomorrah) and stars Josh Brolin (Sicario, Avengers: Infinity War),Benicio Del Toro (Sicario, Star Wars: The Last Jedi) and Isabela Moner (Transformers: The Last Knight) with supporting performance from Academy-Award® nominee Catherine Keener (Get Out, Being John Malkovich).
This time we follow federal agent Matt Graver, Josh Brolin, as he recruits once again hitman Alejandro, Benicio Del Toro, to aid the US government in igniting a war between Mexican drug cartels whom they believe are smuggling in terrorists.
Part of the plan is to kidnap a kingpin’s daughter, Isabela Moner, making it look like another cartel has carried it out, however when orders change Matt and Alejandro must go their separate ways to try to achieve what they think is right.
As in Sicario, the sequel grabs your attention straight away with a very graphic terrorist attack drawing you into the plot. It is also very fast moving with little time to catch your breath between action.
Cinematically pleasing with good acting performances and a reasonable plot, Sicario 2: Soldado is definitely worth a viewing. Personally, I feel the movie lasted one scene too many, however understand this is for closure and leading to a possible Sicario 3… I can’t wait.
Sicario 2: Soldado is available on digital download from 22nd October and on 4K UHD, DVD and Blu-Ray from 29th October, courtesy of Lionsgate Home Entertainment UK.
